The Student Success Center for Georgia Southwestern State University is a 139,000 sf multi-use project including 99,000 sf new construction and a 40,000 sf renovation. The project contains student recreational facilities, student government and services offices, and meeting spaces. The AA basketball arena and convocation hall which seats approximately 3000, forms the heart of the project. It serves as the anchor point for the historic quad of the University bridging the space between the historic Wheatley Administration Building and the Florrie Çhappel Gymnasium. The design and materials were carefully chosen to compliment the surrounding historic structures while simultaneously celebrating the building’s connection to contemporary culture. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems in the existing building were brought up to current code. State-of-the-art communications and audio/visual systems have also been installed throughout the new and existing areas of the building.
